Cheetah

The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a large cat and the fastest land animal. It has a tawny to creamy white or pale buff fur that is marked with evenly spaced, solid black spots. The head is small and rounded, with a short snout and black tear-like facial streaks. It reaches 67–94 cm (26–37 in) at the shoulder, and the head-and-body length is between 1.1 and 1.5 m (3 ft 7 in and 4 ft 11 in). Adults weigh between 21 and 72 kg (46 and 159 lb). The cheetah is capable of running at 93 to 104 km/h (58 to 65 mph);[3][4] it has evolved specialized adaptations for speed, including a light build, long thin legs and a long tail.
The cheetah was first described in the late 18th century. Four subspecies are recognised today that are native to Africa and central Iran. An African subspecies was introduced to India in 2022. It is now distributed mainly in small, fragmented populations in northwestern, eastern and southern Africa and central Iran. It lives in a variety of habitats such as savannahs in the Serengeti, arid mountain ranges in the Sahara, and hilly desert terrain.

Library of Trinity College Dublin, Ireland
Nestled in the heart of Ireland, the Library of Trinity College Dublin, recognised for its pursuit of knowledge and the rich tapestry of history. It traces its roots back to the inception of Trinity College in 1592, where it has since flourished into an institution revered worldwide. Renowned for its illustrious artefacts, including the famed Book of Kells, the library has captivated scholars and art enthusiasts for centuries. Amidst its hallowed chambers is the Long Room, which is an impressive 65 metres long and is adorned with marble busts of prominent figures. Among its other treasures are the Brian Boru harp, a symbol of Ireland’s rich musical heritage, and a rare copy of the 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic. For fans of television and lore, a fascinating tidbit awaits: the Long Room was featured as a substitute for a reading room in the TV series ‘Foundation,’ displaying its timeless charm.
The Library began with the founding of Trinity College in 1592. In 1661, Henry Jones presented it with the Book of Kells, its most famous manuscript.
James Ussher (1625–56), Archbishop of Armagh, whose most important works were Veterum Epistolarum Hibernicarum Sylloge (1632) and Brittanicarum Ecclesiarum Antiquitates (1639), left his valuable library, comprising several thousand printed books and manuscripts, to the Library. His complete works were published by the Library in twenty-four volumes.[9]
The library proper occupies several buildings, six of which are at the Trinity College campus itself, with another part of the Trinity Centre at St James’s Hospital, Dublin:
- The Hamilton Science and Engineering Library, located within the Hamilton Building.
- The 1937 Reading Room (for postgraduate use).
- The John Stearne Medical Library (JSML), housed at St James’s Hospital.
